Nicole Ari Parker has worked in film, TV as well as on stage. She was best known for her character Teri (the vigorous legal) Joseph. Nikki Kodjoe became her stage name after her wedding. The family was born to Mumbai, India and raised in Nigeria up to the age of seven, Contractor was well-informed about traveling around the globe and in a wide range of cultures at a very young age. She attended boarding school in London between the ages of seven and nine years old, then her family moved towards Toronto, Canada, where she spent the majority of her childhood and young adulthood. Contractor had a great academic career at the University of Toronto Toronto in addition to her training as ballerina. She was a student at an Etobicoke School of the Arts which is a highly specialized public arts high school in which she was not just a dancer but also studied theater. Contractor was dancing for nearly ten years at that time and decided to focus on acting. As soon as she finished high school, she received an all-inclusive scholarship to the University of Toronto. At the University of Toronto she completed the Master of Arts in Theatre. She she also double-majored in Psychology and Sociology. After a single semester at the University, Contractor went to an open audition for the production Pericles at the prestigious, world-renowned Stratford Shakespeare Festival [Ontario, Canada and landed the lead role. The production she appeared in earned praise from Canadian critics. Contractor accepted an invitation to join Stratford's Conservatory. The Conservatory has only 8 men and four females are admitted for a 20-week intensive course in the classical theatre. Contractor was guaranteed a spot in the next season of plays and landed the role in the role of Hermia as Hermia in A Midsummer Night's Dream.
